These are some of the many Anglicisms that have become part of our language and indicate the regulation of artificial light through manual controls or automatic mechanisms.
One of the first applications was in household lamps, but now the main use is in the industrial field, also because the power involved, and therefore energy savings, are more important.
In this context, the dimming is performed through systems, such as the DALI, However, all the lamps need to be wired to a central control unit. The alternative to running cables is wireless connectivity, but this isn't always possible, especially when there are barriers and large metal structures, typical of some industrial sites. Furthermore, both these technologies require sensors, both inside and outside the premises, to detect natural and artificial light. These, of course, must also be connected to the control unit; all of this is supervised by dedicated software.
